Dr. Hill's 6th Grade Science

Course Description

The Characteristics of Cells
.
Students will be able to define the scientific terms of the various structures found in a cell. Students will be able to explain the function of each cell organelle and its role in overall cell function and maintenance. Students will be able to utilize visual, tactile and auditory modalities to reinforce their understanding of cell organelle function. Students will describe the relationship between cells and organisms. Students will create portable word walls, one pagers, and other products. Many assignments will be completed on StemScopes-- Reading Comprehension Quiz, Post Assessment, Writing, and Content Containment Quiz.

What is a cell ?         Day 4

Notes for interactive notebook (INB). Like all living things, you are made of cells. A cell is the smallest functional and structural unit of all living organisms. An organism is any living thing. All organisms are made of cell. Some organisms are just one cell, Others, like humans, contain trillions of cells. An organism carries out all of its own life processes.

Watch the video and create a one pager to document what you learned. Use colored pencils or markers to add color. Access the video through the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URUJD5NEXC8

Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Booklet Day 3

All organisms are made of cells that are either prokaryotic or eukaryotic. To determine the type, prokaryote or eukaryote, the level of organization within the cell is examined. Create a Booklet to show your understanding and describe the similarities and differences shown by each type of cell. You can use the illustrations that are found in the attachments and/ or include some of your own illustrations.

Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells Reading Day 2

Day 2

Read  (Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells (B) Organisms and Environments). Take notes in your interactive notebook. You can use these noted when you take the quiz at the end of your reading. Go to Stemscopes and complete the quiz to document your answers: https://n11089d145325.acceleratelearning.com.

Use the same log in information that you use to log into Compass Learning.

Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells Day 1

Day 1

Notes (Place this information in your interactive notebook, spiral notebook, or on a separate sheet of paper.

All living things have cells, the basic unit of an organism.

Two Types

Prokaryotic cells - do not have a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles.

Eukaryotic cells - have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.

The inside of a cell is mainly water.

This makes it easier for the substances to move around inside a cell, gives cells their shapes, and helps keep the structures inside a cell organized.

Create a portable word wall in your Interactive Notebook, spiral note book, or on a sheet of paper.
