Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break!
I have taught all the required concepts for all grade levels. As such, your child will be working to make connections/review concepts as they all prepare for the state STAAR test for the balance of the school year through centers/stations on a daily basis.
Today, with the exception of one of my Fourth Grade Class, we collected data (race times). Your child will be required to use the data collected to do the following:
1. Compare and order
2. Add and subtract with decimals
3. Estimate to the tenths and whole numbers
4. Convert from seconds to minutes using a T-Chart
5. Convert race times from decimals to mixed fractions (reduce to simplest forms if necessary)
6. Expand data sets into different notations (decimal, fraction, and written)
7. Create Stem-Leaf Plots
8. Box-Whisker Plot (Mean, Median, Mode, Range, and IQR) - 6th Grade Only
Please ask your child to see the data from today's activity and the corresponding assignments. Once the various assignments are complete, I will begin to extend their learning for next years curriculum. Students are required to show their work in their Math Journals with strategies (organized and neat please). If you have questions, please email them to me and I will respond accordingly. All assignments are reviewed concepts thus, they are now required to apply their knowledge (they may use their notes to refresh their memories) in various ways.
